For centuries, watchmakers have pursued the same objective: to make the measurement of time ever more consistent. Yet the mechanisms developed in pursuit of this goal generally remain invisible, concealed behind dials and bridges.

With the CIC 39 InVerto Titanium, Bernhard Lederer offers a different perspective. The double remontoir d’égalité becomes the true protagonist of the timepiece. The InVerto does not simply display the time: it reveals the complex mechanics that ensure its regularity.

AN INVERTED ARCHITECTURE DEDICATED TO CHRONOMETRY

The InVerto takes its name from its unique inverted construction. The movement was entirely reimagined to reveal, on the dial side, the components that contribute directly to the stability of the energy supply and the precision of the watch.

This three-dimensional construction makes it possible to visually follow the flow of energy through the movement. The two remontoirs d’égalité now take centre stage, surrounded by the transmission and regulating organs.

Far from being a mere stylistic exercise, this architecture expresses a fundamental conviction: the mechanisms that make chronometry possible deserve to be observed, understood and admired.

THE DOUBLE REMONTOIR: ONE OF HAUTE HORLOGERIE’S RAREST COMPLICATIONS

At the heart of the CIC 39 InVerto Titanium lies Bernhard Lederer’s patented double remontoir d’égalité complication. Among the rarest complications in haute horlogerie, it is also exceptionally complex to design, manufacture and regulate. The system relies on two separate remontoirs operating independently of one another.

First introduced within the Central Impulse Chronometer (CIC), this mechanism enables each remontoir to release every fifteen seconds, delivering remarkably consistent energy to the escapement. Much of its complexity lies in the precise synchronisation of the two mechanisms.

Entirely developed and manufactured at the LEDERER Manufacture in Saint-Blaise, this complication forms one of the foundations of the watch’s chronometric construction. Its perfectly sequenced operation also becomes one of the principal mechanical animations revealed by the InVerto.

To limit the energy required for their release and reduce friction, the remontoirs’ control mechanism has been positioned on the axis of the third wheel. Together, the two remontoirs ensure a constant supply of energy, helping the balance maintain a stable amplitude throughout the entire power reserve.

Far more than a visual demonstration, the double remontoir d’égalité represents one of the most accomplished expressions of Bernhard Lederer’s four decades of research into energy transmission and mechanical precision.

THE LEGACY OF MARINE CHRONOMETERS

The energy delivered by the two remontoirs powers the double-wheel detent escapement developed by Bernhard Lederer, featuring two independent escape wheels.

Historically used in the finest marine chronometers for its exceptional chronometric performance, the detent escapement is renowned for its high efficiency and the minimal disturbance it exerts on the oscillator. Bernhard Lederer reinterpreted this historic principle to meet the demands of a contemporary wristwatch. Combined with the double remontoir system, it forms one of the foundations of the chronometric architecture that defines the CIC 39 InVerto Titanium.
