The Frog Queen – Table Clock – Miki Eleta 2026
The table clock ‘The Frog Queen’ is an is a tribute to the garden as an oasis of calm that offers peace and inspiration.
Changes in the garden indicate the passing of time: every hour, a frog appears. The Frog Queen, hidden within a flower, reveals herself every twelve hours.
A crane lurks in the pond. Once in twelve hours, it pecks at the frogs. The flower immediately closes protectively around the Queen. The frogs hide beneath their lotus leaves.
On the hand-skeletted dial, richly decorated with snakes, flowers and tadpoles, a snake indicates the minutes. Each minute is represented by a tadpole.
The clock features many motifs from the Asian region. For instance, the number 8 is hidden throughout.
The days of the week on the hand-skeletted ring are represented by symbols for the sun, moon and the five elements: Moon (Monday), Fire (Tuesday), Water (Wednesday), Wood (Thursday), Metal (Friday), Earth (Saturday) and Sun (Sunday).
A mechanical automaton enhances the experience: fish and swans swim past on the outer ring, and water splashes from the upper pond onto the lower level. The automaton is wound by hand and runs for 15 minutes.
All parts of the clock and all the animals and plants (except for the glass figures) were handcrafted by Miki Eleta.
