Manman Panda

Description

The FAYY Manman Panda Watch is conceived as a Métiers d’Art timepiece, bringing Chinese intangible cultural heritage inner-painting into contemporary watchmaking. Painted by hand on the underside of the sapphire crystal, the image of Manman is created through a demanding reverse-painting process, transforming the watch crystal from a protective surface into a miniature artistic field.

Two Artists, One Dial

The piece is created through the collaboration of Mr Yuan Long Jun and Mr Lai Si Jia. Mr Yuan, chief designer of panda culture at the World Ecological Design Organisation, has dedicated more than thirty years to panda art, giving Manman her posture, expression and emotional identity. Mr Lai, a third-generation inheritor and the sole recognised representative of Guangdong inner-painting, translates this image into a sapphire-based miniature painting. His works have been presented in museums in China, reflecting the cultural significance of his craft.

Convertible Watch

The Manman Panda Watch is designed as a convertible timepiece. Its lugless case and hidden crown allow it to be worn either as a wristwatch or attached to a leather necklace as a pendant watch. This dual format positions the piece between horological instrument, wearable artwork and personal cultural object, allowing Manman to be carried in more than one way.

Time as a Cultural Medium

FAYY regards timekeeping as a universal language, but one shaped differently by each civilisation. The Manman Panda Watch connects the cyclical, nature-centred philosophy of the Chinese Twelve Earthly Branches with the precision and rhythm of contemporary watchmaking. Through this project, FAYY aims to share traditional Chinese craftsmanship and a gentler philosophy of time with the world. Here, time is not only measured. It is painted, carried and lived
