Description
The Masterlink Perpetual Calendar introduces the in-house Calibre GCA11000, the first shaped automatic perpetual calendar movement developed by Gerald Charles. Conceived specifically to follow the asymmetrical geometry of the Masterlink case, the calibre integrates a micro-rotor winding system and a proprietary three-counter display indicating day, date, month, leap year and moonphase.
The perpetual calendar display has been entirely reimagined to enhance legibility and user experience. Rather than relying on traditional crowded layouts, the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar features a proprietary three-counter architecture with oversized indications integrated into the collection’s signature asymmetrical design. The enlarged date and moonphase display positioned within the characteristic “smile” at 6 o’clock improves readability while maintaining visual balance across the dial. The moonphase mechanism incorporates a 135-tooth wheel, allowing exceptionally precise and fluid lunar progression.
The open-worked sapphire dial reveals the entire architecture of the movement through a transparent construction that supports the applied indexes while maintaining legibility through smoked sapphire sections positioned behind the calendar indications. This arrangement offers an unobstructed view of the calibre’s bridges, cams and levers, highlighting the technical complexity of the perpetual calendar mechanism.
Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement is decorated with a unique engraving concept inspired by the city of Geneva. The bridges and mainplate reproduce elements of Geneva’s geography, with straight Geneva stripes symbolising the city’s streets and curved ones representing Lake Léman, while a black ruby marks the location of the Gerald Charles atelier on Rue du Mont-Blanc.
The 40 mm case and integrated bracelet are crafted from Grade 5 titanium and benefit from TITARON™, Gerald Charles’ proprietary hardening treatment, which significantly increases surface hardness and scratch resistance while preserving the material’s original appearance. The watch further showcases exceptional finishing expertise through a sophisticated combination of three distinct finishes - Darkblast®, polished and vertical brushed - creating depth, contrast and a highly architectural aesthetic.
Combining an ultra-thin shaped calibre, 100-metre water resistance, advanced material engineering and traditional haute horlogerie finishing, the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar offers a contemporary interpretation of one of watchmaking’s most prestigious complications while remaining faithful to Gerald Charles’ philosophy of technical innovation and everyday wearability.
