The Sparkling Date – the Star of the Starside CollectionThe Starside Sparkling Date epitomizes the vibrant homage that Maurice Lacroix pays towomen: An exclusive homage that puts her right at the heart of watchmaking technology andproves that complex mechanisms can be part of femininity.Launched as a limited edition of 250 pieces, the Sparkling Date causes time to pass by thanks to aknow-how expanding to the rhythm of the oscillations of an automatic movement whose complicationwas entirely conceived and developed by Maurice Lacroix. The ML 127 calibre features a retrogradedate and the phases of the moon in a totally new form of display. The mechanisms were developed ina wholly innovative spirit, with the intention of dedicating to the woman one of the most beautifulreadings of the passage of time. These marvels of originality are covered by patent applications.At the heart of a silver-coloured constellation, the moon is incarnated by an eccentric rotating disc. Byeclipsing itself under a salient mask that dominates a moonstone, it gradually reveals its cycle. Theheavenly reflections of this stone run contrasts on the black dial and radiate an opal luminescence.The originality of the display is accentuated by an imaged dcor that emphasizes depth and perspective,imparting a sense that the universe is right at hand.The date wanders and undulates with insouciance on the purple background of the dial. The retrogradecalendar creates a luminous groove accompanied by a hand with a single diamond insert. Thishand follows a wavy and gracious curve that metamorphoses time into an exquisite crossing, and thenin the fleeting time of a dazzling lightning flash, invariably resumes its path to the end of its course -an astonishing retrograde display that adds its own lyricism to this complication.The white gold case is of unparalleled brightness. Bezel, lugs and crown give themselves withoutreservation to a myriad of diamonds. Finished by a cambered sapphire glass, the dial troubles thesenses. The reliefs are carefully spaced out; the chiaroscuro is captivating. The alchemy of the purpleand black colours casts a lot to time and stages its reading harmoniously. Eccentric, the revolution ofthe hours chooses the diagram: it succumbs to the spell of applied index marks, tapered and slender,that tame the arabesque aspect of the face.The spontaneous readability is made possible by a deliberate scenography that marks the leastindication with art and ingenuity.
