Description
The OVNI Jumping Disc was developed over four years. With no existing template to adapt or copy, the challenge was to create an original way of displaying time that remained mechanical, intuitive and emotionally engaging. Every part of the concept, from the jumping disc to the visual architecture of the display, had to be resolved from the ground up.
The result is Isotope’s interpretation of the jumping-hour complication, not as a nostalgic exercise, but as a new visual language for time.
There are no central hands, no traditional hour markers, and no conventional dial layout. Instead, the hour is revealed through an aperture at the edge of a large central rotating disc, while the minutes are read around the central dome. The result is calm, direct and surprisingly intuitive once understood.
OVNI means UFO in several Latin languages, including Portuguese, Spanish and French, and the name reflects the object-like character of the watch. With its crown at 12 o’clock, domed sapphire crystal and floating central display, the OVNI feels less like a traditional wristwatch and more like a small mechanical spacecraft.
The watch is powered by a Swiss Made La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement, fitted with a proprietary jumping-hour module imagined and developed for Isotope. The module drives the central disc with a crisp hourly jump, transforming a familiar complication into something graphic, sculptural and immediate.
The hardened aluminium disc sits above a second disc carrying bespoke Super-LumiNova numerals, giving the watch strong night-time presence and reinforcing the idea of a display rather than a dial. The polished 904L stainless steel case and donut-shaped sapphire crystal add depth, distortion and a distinct architectural quality.
Limited to 150 pieces, the OVNI Jumping Disc Founders Edition introduces a new mechanical platform for Isotope. It reflects ten years of attainable innovation, British design and Swiss mechanics, while rethinking how time can be shown without losing the emotional pleasure of a mechanical watch.
