Description
The new SCHOTT brand ‘s watch is born with ‘Renaissance One’.
SCHOTT created this new automatic Swiss Made watch as a tribute in relation to the construction of the future largest telescope in the world.
SCHOTT SA (Carl-Zeiss Foundation) participates in the manufacturing the mirrors of the ELT - Extremely Large Telescope.
The largest mirror is 39 meters in diameter for an area of 1116 m2. It is composed of 798 hexagonal segments whose shape is reproduced on the watch’s dial. All the mirrors are made of Zerodur ® (SCHOTT patent). The main characteristic of this material is almost zero coefficient of thermal expansion (0.01 x 10 -6 / K). Comparatively, metals have coefficients on the order of 10 to 20 x 10 -6 / K, so around 1,000 x less performant than the Zerodur ®. In addition, it’s defect-free nanometric polishing precision makes it a precious material.
SCHOTT has made every effort to manufacture the dial for this watch in Zerodur ® which makes it the main feature of the ‘Renaissance One’ watch.
The information received from the universe through this future giant telescope will provide access to the new data of our solar system’s birth.
The “Renaissance One” watch is the symbol of this new technological step. So this serie of watches will be limited and numbered to 798 pieces.
