Description
For over thirty years, we have specialized in the restoration and sale of antique timepieces. The development of our own in-house calibers ultimately led to the creation of Masa & Co. in 2023, a brand dedicated to expressing our distinctive vision of watchmaking.
The model bears the name Shike, a Japanese word that describes a rough and turbulent sea. This name reflects both the visual character of the watch and the personal journey behind its creation.
The dial is crafted from sterling silver and features a Bombay-style construction. Both the hour and minute markers are individually applied components, while the dial surface is finished with a hand-applied charcoal treatment, creating depth and subtle tonal variations. The hour, minute, and seconds hands are of an original design, with finely brushed upper surfaces and hand-polished bevels.
The sweeping hands evoke the movement of ocean swells, while the textured dial recalls the surface of a storm-tossed sea. Through these elements, Shike transforms a life shaped by challenge, endurance, and renewal into a tangible expression of time.
Our fully in-house movement is entirely manufactured, finished, and assembled within our workshop. The bridges are meticulously hand-bevelled and polished, then decorated with flowing Côtes de Genève. The main plate is adorned with traditional perlage, reflecting the standards of classical watchmaking craftsmanship.
The movement incorporates a Geneva stop mechanism, limiting the power reserve to 32 hours. By restricting operation to the mainspring’s optimal torque range, the movement achieves enhanced chronometric stability and precision.
Inspired by antique pocket watches, the design and finishing of Shike embody a timeless vision of watchmaking, recalling an era when finely crafted timepieces were treasured for a lifetime and passed down through generations.
Like the sea from which it takes its name, Shike represents both adversity and endurance. It is a tribute to more than three decades devoted to the restoration, study, and creation of fine timepieces, and to the determination required to continue moving forward despite every wave and storm.
