Description
The Seconde Majeure features an ingenious architecture built around its signature complication. A jumping-hour module—developed by Théo Auffret—is composed of three visible components.
Beneath the minute disc lies the Central Driving Wheel, which completes one full rotation every 60 minutes. At the end of each rotation, it engages with the Hour Star. Directly connected to the hour disc, this star features 12 teeth, each corresponding to one of the 12 hours.
Visible on the left, the Jumper Spring applies constant pressure to the Hour Star, keeping it perfectly indexed. It is also responsible for the instantaneous hour jump. As the Hour Star begins to rotate, the spring gradually builds tension. The hour changes the instant the spring snaps into the next tooth.
Both functional and decorative, the dial unifies the entire construction. Machined from a single piece of German silver, it serves as the main plate for the jumping-hour module while providing the structural foundation required for the movement to operate.
Supplied by the brand to the GPHG for its entry.
