Description
With the Waltz N°1 Ornament Edition, Carl Suchy & Söhne opens a new chapter within its collection. For the first time, the constructive thinking of Viennese Modernism is not merely referenced, but systematically translated into mechanics.
The Ornament is powered by an adapted ultra-thin Calibre CSS-A1 measuring 30 millimetres in diameter and only 2.6 millimetres in height, realised in collaboration with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier exclusively for Carl Suchy & Söhne. What appears on the dial as disciplined geometry continues within the movement as precise construction.
The Ornament does not follow a decorative motif. Its dial is based on a geometric grid of concentric lines. The numerals 12, 3, 6 and 9 are not applied elements but integral components of this structure, emerging directly from the system itself.
This approach reflects a distinctly Viennese understanding of design: ornament is not added to form but generated from order. Rooted in the intellectual legacy of Viennese Modernism, the watch transforms decoration into structure and structure into a legible expression of time.
The rotating Waltzing Disc at six o’clock completes the linear composition once every minute. Movement becomes part of order. Time appears as a constructive process. Inspired by Vienna’s unique relationship with rhythm and the cultural symbolism of the waltz, the indication introduces a subtle temporal choreography.
Slender black hands integrate seamlessly into the composition without disrupting its graphic clarity. The geometric structure of the dial also determines the architecture within. The result is a watch in which mechanics, design and the Viennese conception of time converge into a single coherent system.
